The clubs in the First Division each have their own thread for bits and pieces that happen over the summer, so thought it might be a decent idea for this forum as well. Obviously many individual transfer rumours will still merit there own threads but having a specific thread seems a good way of keeping track of what is happening over the summer months.

I'd expect the list of senior depatures will be made public from Saints in the next few days but we've already released seven of our U19 players, namely Martyn Shields, Ross Alexander, Darren Kelly, Sean Porter, David Heagney, Matt Hemsley and Kieran O’Hear. Paul Sheerin has also admitted publically that there is no contract offer on the table for him, whilst speculation mounts that guys like Gary Irvine, Gavin Swankie and Kenny Deuchar are all on their way.

I might just be being a little thick here, but is that a typo or is Jackson playing without a contract? Posted Image

Anyway, not too bothered to see the back of Swankie, and, after this year's performances, I'm sad to say that I don't see much of a future for Gary Irvine either. He has surprised me by completely failing to make the step up, with his positioning and passing of particular concern.

The idea, mooted by some on WAP, of a right hand side of Irvine and Swankie fills me with utter terror. We'd concede goal after goal down that side, and rarely create from there.

I'd like to see Deuchar stick around for another year, particularly to see if he can forge another partnership with Andy Jackson as they did last time around.

I'd also like to see Duberry, Hardie, Samuel, Macdonald and maybe Morais stay out of the out-of-contract players.

Duberry would be my number one target though - he has transformed our defence. If we could get a new, defensively solid right back in and keep Mackay and Duberry as centre-back partnerships I think we'd be significantly stronger next season.

A new goalkeeper is a priority as well. Smith did brilliantly when he took over from Main and that co-incided with us tightening up at the back a bit. He's made a few errors lately, but has taken a lot of flak over goals that were as much the fault of the defence in front of him.

I see Duberry is not under contract. I'm surprised he isn't tempted to have another go at the SPL considering you lot did so well and that his form was pretty decent. McInnes might want to bring in younger players to build a long term team in this league, but with Morris in the middle and Duberry in defence it's the basis of a good spine of the team with experience for the young lads.

Is he too expensive too keep, or has he decided he doesn't like the company tractor he was given?

He's been really disappointing this season, just doesn't seem to possess any composure on the ball.

Agree with pretty much everything Jamie has said, if Smith is #1 next season it is no disaster, but a better keeper would be nice. Deuchar will be very hard to replace if he is away. Can't see Caff getting back in so would rather move him on and get a quicker and stronger defender in. I guess he could go to Dundee for more wages.

His family is still in London, and he isn't going to move them. He never intended to stay on after this season but that will depend on him getting a decent offer down south I would guess.

Doobs is offski as he misses his family to much. Cannae really fault him for that, he's done a terrific job for us although he has some critics in odd sections of our support that must watch totally different games from me. Prior to his signing we were heading a for a relegation dog fight and a strong experienced central defender is a must for next year.

Irvine can still do a job, just no a very good one. Might be worth keeping as a squad player but until he ups his game he should not be anywhere near the first team regularly.

It is IMPERATIVE the Doc stays. I'd rather lose Sammy and Milne up front than Doc. Neither of them are consistant enough and Savo inparticular just hasn't measured up in terms of performances. Peaso has probably played his last game to, we cannae keep paying wages for a player to sit on the treatment table, no matter how good he is. Doc is tremendous in terms of effort and creates so many chances up front for other players. Get him signed.

I hate people who say "I know someone in the club and they've told me....etc", but on this occasion I have it on very good authority that Sheridan wants to come to Mcd permenantly. It all depends on whether Celtic are going to give him a chance next year or not, if they don't reasure him of that then there's a very good chance (if he has any say in it) he'll be playing for us again in 10/11. When he applies himself he's terrific, I'd take him back in a heartbeart.

Other than that, we desperatley need a keeper. Smithy is a total bombscare on occasion and has probably cost us a few points this season. Dissapointing after a promising start.

Well I have it from his own mouth that he'd rather sit on Celtics bench every one in ten games than play for St Johnstone.

Edit: I'm absolutely gutted to see Gary Irvine go. He hasn't been given the chance to show his form from last season. You don't suddenly become a shit player. He has the talent and ability. Hopefully he comes back to haunt McInnes.

Irvine was excellent in Division One - but I always had question marks over, in particular, his crossing. He was never really caught out with his positioning last year.

But this year he's had problems with committing himself too high up the park, and his distribution has been poor.

I feel he was given the chance to show his form from last year - but hasn't performed at all.

Its a shame, as he was brilliant last year - and we were all gutted when we thought he would be moving on last summer.

But some players just can't make the step up, and he would need a big improvement to become a regular SPL player.

Well then I bow to your superior knowledge. My info was second hand from someone who regularly speaks with Docherty so your probably right.

That's a bit shit though, rather sit on the OF bench that play regularly. Professional pride sold up the river for a few bob. Celtic are welcome to him if that's the case.

We need some pace in the wide areas, so I would take Morais regardless of how inconsistent he is.

I doubt any of the rest would interest us.

Sammy wont sign for Dundee, he is still waiting for his big chance, i.e like the Wigan rumour.

Anyway I reckon he will sign on again, since his injuries probably hampered his chance of a big move.

I would be sorry to see the Doc go. His lack of goals this season was down to the quality, or lack of crosses into the box.
Most of the time he was receiving the ball with his back to goal, 30 yards out. We need a winger.

I'll be glad to see Sheridan go though. He is woeful.

Good news getting Sammy sugned up. The injury couldn't have come at a worse time this season, hopefully he gets a good pre-season and comes back ready to set the SPL alight.

The rest are a bit meh anyway. Deuchar would be good to have though.

I think we need more players this year than last year. GK, 2 defenders, Wide midfield & a 20 goals a season striker ;)

Of the out of contract players, would only keep Main as 3rd keeper if he wants, Duberry if we kidnap his offspring & Deuchar although that looks doubtful.
