I personally go with Astro File Manager, Hi MSN, and MixZing Lite (for music). I'm not really one for downloading apps though tbh.

I’ve got the following apps:

Album Art Grabber
Android Calendar Widget
ASTRO File Manager
beebPlayer – iPlayer
Game On – check up on XBL friends status, profiles.
Gmote – allows you to use your phone as a remote for your PC/laptop. Also able to stream media
Facebook
Last.fm
Listen – for podcasts
MP3 store (Amazon) – only way to download tracks and albums direct to the phone
MyTracks – Track runs, walks, bike rides etc. and send to Google Maps.
MyBackup Pro
Places Directory – Find nearest pub and all other types of establishments.
Shazam
SMS Backup – saves text messages to your Gmail account
Soccer Livescores
Taskiller – this is a must as having loads of programmes open you’re not using will slow your Hero down
Timeriffic – set up profiles for when you want the phone to be silent, etc. (Locale is better but is now £9.99)
Tube Downloader
Unit Converter
Video Player

I'll add some more later, but Soccer Score centre is well worth the £1.50. Better than any of the free football update apps, its basically an unofficial Sky Sports News app :)

WaveSecure - https://www.wavesecure.com/ - The first app you should put on your android phone. Can shut your phone down over internet and pinpoint it with GPS if it gets nicked or lost. Brilliant. I got it free but I think you might have to pay for it now.

Sweet Dreams - Program your phone when to go into silent whether it be using GPS, movement, time or a mixture of all 3

Google Goggles - Just get it and try it. Its fantastic

Google Sky Map - Largely useless but extremely cool

Taskiller - Close down unwanted apps running in the background and increase your battery life.

Astrid- Reminder app. Taking out bins can be given an alarm. etc. Handy.

Shazam - It listens to a tune and lets you know what its called and who the artist is (doesnt work with Live music though, but pretty cool)

Think SweetDreams and Google Goggles - among other apps - are only available for Android 1.6+

Edit: Handcent is another app I use in place of the native 'Messages'. You can use this or 'SMS Popup' to show messages as they arrive rather than having to open up the programme.

I've registered WaveSecure but not used it. It looks userful, but I just missed out on the free version. Not sure I'll bother paying for it when the trial runs out.

Im not sure I ned the gmail notification either, but it doesnt seem to do any harm!

Ah, I only have 1.5 - dont know if 1.6 will make it to the Hero or not

I might give Handcent a go, although you can see the message in the notification so its maybe not that useful

Another to add to the list

instamapper

Uses the GPS on the phone to plot your location, and route, on google maps. Gives speed, elevation and direction for each reading. You can also save routes and share them.

My cycle route today

I'm buying that phone in May when I get my offshore payment from work and I will kick my Satio around the flat until it breaks. SE phones are complete puff.

I actually really like SE phones, sorry, DID like.
They used to have the best interface and were pretty much the only phone i would go for.
But they havn't handled the touch screen generation very well at all and most of their new handsets are absolute crapshyte. I have a Samsung Tocco just now (my first samsung) and that's absolute guff as well. Knew i should have tried it before i bought it.
I think they should look into improving the quality of the touchscreen instead of improving camera quality.

ah well, HTC here I come.

I have a google g1 (or htc dream) and these are the apps i use that you havn't downloaded :

Dolphin Browser - The equivalent of firefox on your phone
Chomp SMS - Much better than the default messaging app
FotMob 4.0 - Not only gives you scores but also news etc...
Ringdroid - Lets you take any of the songs on your phone and edit them to make them a ringtone/notification
Uninstaller - A good app for uninstaling apps

I wasnt all that impressed with Dolphin - it doesnt have flash support, does it?

Does FotMob update quickly? I like Soccer Centre, but it doesnt seem to update very quickly, if at all :(

edited to add - also, does it do lower Scottish league scores?

No FotMob is quite sluggish i'm afraid, it doesnt have scottish lower leagues either. I use FotMob for football news more than i use it for scores.

I use a differnet app for scores called Soccer Livescores which is quite fast and you can pick a match and it will give you notifications when goals are scored. It definatley has SPL + SFL 1 but i'm not sure if it has the other 2 leagues as you can only see the matches while they are getting played

Sorry,that wasn't very clear.

Fixtures are displayed the day the games take place.
You can set a notification on a game you are interested in.
There are many leagues (Including ALL Scottish Lower Leagues)

Just got the HTC Legend today and charging it now so this thread is the baws. Wavesecure, taskiller, google goggles & that soccer score centre one all look good.

Honestly, i'm like a kid in a sweet shop with this phone - leaving the shitty Samsung behind (hi ebay!)

Good work people. Let's keep this bumped :)

Then you'll be wanting Google Goggles. I had a bitch of a time trying to find this - Android Market for some reason wasn't displaying it from my Legend but after a bit of searching found THIS

You can either navigate to the page from your mobile or copy and paste the link into an email and open the link from the email on your phone.

Remember to tick the "allow install of non-market applications" section in the Applications menu

Other downloads so far include-

MixZing - a media player FAR better than the host one on my phone.
Advanced Task Killer - you all know about this one
Bluetooth OnOff - a widget for the home screen that negates the need to switch Bluetooth on and off from inside the settings (just press the widget)

I've also upgraded Google Maps to version 4.1.1 which includes street view amongst others.

Absolutely loving this phone BTW :thumsup2
