Apparently signed a pre-contract agreement. A lad on the Rovers forum works with Kevin Byers and he apparently told him.
Don't know much about him. What kind of player is he?

Fullback, ex-St Johnstone. Only seen him once this year, but he looked a player. Big, strong boy.

I thought he was decent the one/two times he played against Clyde for St Johnstone and he's a good player at this level. Probably the best left-back in the division, after Ross Forsyth.

Always liked him as a youngster at St Johnstone. Not really seen much of him since.
We are a team, of fame and fortune.

Can't say I've noticed him too much in games against us but the Brechin fans seem to really rate him. I was always kind of hoping he'd have a nightmare against us so I could come on here and call him Willie Dire.

Be quiet surprised if that's true, mostly because our defence is pretty sound as it is. I know we're currently at the bare bones there, but I'd imagine Wilson and Sparky will be kept on next year (hope so, anyway). That would leave us with those two, Ellis, Hill, Murray and Gathuessi. 6 defenders, most of whom are pretty versatile and indeed have occupied a number of positions in the team already this season.
Obviously there's no guarantee all of those players will be kept on, but I've seen no reason so far to suggest that any of them aren't good enough at this level; quite the opposite, in fact. I'd be disappointed if McGlynn did choose to let any of them go.
On the other hand, Willie Dyer > Craig Wedderburn.

Dunfermline boss Jim McIntyre must be at a loss to explain the succession of goalkeeping howlers he's witnessed from the frazzled Pars this season. I'm picturing a scene akin to Basil Fawlty whacking his car repeatedly with a branch after deciding "enough is enough!"

Dyer was really unfortunate at Saints that he was behind Goran Stanic in the pecking order. Stanic barely missed a game in his three years with the club, having been brought in at the start of the 2005/06. Dyer had finished the previous season in possession of the shirt (at just 18) and had been a rare bright spot in a dreadful season but he was never gonna play in front of Stanic and unfortunately for him, as said, the Macedonian barely missed a game. Whenever Dyer was called upon, he did fine as well.
Like Bobby Barr and now Steven Doris, I'd have liked to have seen him given more of a chance (Stanic left a few months after Dyer) and we struggled badly for a natural left back for the whole of last season.

Get him signed if he is a St Johnstone reject: every time I hear about their rejects they always seem to be alright and do decent for other teams, with most of the time Saints fans saying they are pish. For instance, Mark Campbell and Robert Sloan have been excellent signings for us.

thought Byers delivered chips for his folks' shop as well as playing footy with us? Or has he got a third job as well?
Dyer hasn't really performed the past couple of days but generally has been good for us this season as with previous. If only he could use his other foot rather just the one the whole time.

Was disapointed with Dyer on Saturday. Game passed him by to easily and seemed wasteful with the ball.
I'm guessing this isn't usual for him

Dyer was the worst player on the park on Saturday by a distance.
Steve Hislop raped him for pace which says everything and both of our goals came from attacks down his side.

Don't really know what to make of this if true. Dyer was my player of the season last year but this season he hasn't really performed to the same standard, especially the last month or so where he has actually lived up to his (sur)name. As the Pap mentioned, he is very much one footed and never uses his right which is a bit of a worry. Too often he picks up the ball at left back and simply launches the ball down that flank instead of playing the ball inside and attacking down the wing. Either way he'd be a big loss for us simply because decent left backs are so hard to come by these days and the fact that Duffy seems to find it difficult to attract any decent players to the club.
Unfortunately this is the first of several players I expect to sign pre-contracts with other clubs in the next couple of months. We are going to be a lot weaker next season I reckon.

If this is true then it's another case of Duffy at his best ! Good to see he keeps tabs on his players ! Forward planning at it's best. Nothing like being pro-active !
I can see the headline now....."There was nothing I could do to keep Willie at the club"
Ah well , I only hope the geez a game website has a few decent players for next season !

If a player gets a chace to go full time and can increase his salary considerably, no manager in the country will keep hold of him

True.
However I have a cousin who works in a bar in Spain who's cleaner stays next door to a man whose doctor happens to be the doctor for Barcelona FC and he has heard from the Barcelona coaching staff that they are after a coach who comes from Dundee, has no hair and is doing wonders with a second division team.
Until such rumours are confirmed then that is all they are - RUMOURS.

He wont be full time will he?
'Terracing celebrations were suitably extreme. Indeed, the Cowdenbath faithful - all 60-odd of them - kept the rest of us entertained during the not infrequent dull moments. They regaled us with everything from "Cooper's a poof" (difficult to substantiate) to "black and white shite", a suitably assonant summary of the quality of their opponents'

If he's currently part time, I'd seriously doubt we'd offer him a full time deal.

So we have to wait until another team comes in for him before offering him a new deal?

Sorry, bit there is simply no logic to that, Willie Dyer is a part-time footballer, with a job outside of football, perhaps its a job that isn't providing a very satisfactory career path! Whatever, it means the half a dozen or so full timers Raith have is a new job for him not just a new team and surely the offer of a new job would override anything Brechin would be able to offer him.

In the past we have had good players who wanted to stay at the club because it was well run and they were looked after . They found it hard to find even full time clubs who matched Brechin's level of professionalism. This was all down to having managers who were organised and prepared to do that little bit more for the club. Managers who took a bit of interest in all things Brechin City.
This had a knock on effect all round the club . Players , backroom staff , committee, groundstaff all had the will to push forward. There used to be a buzz about the place. Players used to pop into the lounge after games for a bit of banter. They even used to train together once in a while ! I could go on.
Now though, the buzz has gone . Players and manager turn up for games and can't wait to get away at the end. Some of the key players train on their own because Duffy can't come up with an adequate solution like finding a central facility to suit everyone.
No wonder players look to other clubs when their manager can't be bothered to go the extra mile for them.
It took many years of hard work to build the reputation and now one man can come in and affect not only the playing regime but also the whole atmosphere of the club.
I have yet to be won over.

I totally agree with all of the above.
More of a worry for me is what is going to happen at the Club next season. For me, Duffy is getting away with it just now but it can't go on. We have a decent ( small) squad this season, most of them from the O'Neil era but Duffy has been a joke when getting in players, (2 decent - Mclean Mc Allister - what about the rest!!!) . What is he going to do when half the current squad leave at the end of the season?, we only have about 6 players signed for next season. Are the people running the Club asking the RIGHT questions or is Duffy just telling them what he thinks they want to hear?, good talker what about actions and long term plan?. As someone else commented, hope the Daily Record has some decent players he can bring in!.
Duffy has no time for the fans or any social events run by the Club/ Supporters Club but it's the fans supporting the Club that pays his wages !! CAN'T GET OUT OF BRECHIN FAST ENOUGH AFTER GAME AND WILL USE ANY EXCUSE TO GET AWAY.
This man thinks he is better than being the manager of a small club like Brechin City, but then again if he is - why was he out of football for 4 years !!. I think we will get the real answer come the start of next season when we have a very average ( small) squad and have lost all the decent players we have for nothing. The crowds will be even lower, people will not be using the lounge because of no atmosphere and the whole thing will be flat. Then and only then will the committee do something about Duffy - ALL TOO LATE.
WHAT ABOUT BEING PRO-ACTIVE INSTEAD OF RE-ACTIVE ???
