Delighted with the points, very disappointed with the labouring performance. Grady's reaction after we got the winner was absolutely pathetic: let's take off our top scorer against the bottom team when we need a third to kill them off, and put that diddy Simmonds up top with an ultra-defensive back 10. No wonder only 1266 could be arsed to turn up - we're scraping along the bottom of the barrel and there is no sign of an upturn in the near future.
Glad to see the back of Airdrie, all they are is a well-organised Second Division side at the end of the day.
Peter has been carrying an injury and it was touch and go whether he started tonight. I think Grady was trying to protect him for our up coming run of 2 games a week.
I thought we were dire tonight and looked a team totally lacking in confidence. Having said that, we did just about enough to justify the win. For me Tidser again looked pretty composed in the middle and did not waste many balls. I also thought Simmonds did well when he came on, better than I have seen from him previously and far better than Russell who again looked out of his depth, even against the worst team in the league.
Defensively we were very nervous and their goal came from McKinlay getting dragged across to the right (and making an excellent goal saving tackle on the way). When that happens, he is reasonably entitled to expect someone, probably McAllister to tuck in and protect the left side of the box. Jimbo failed to do that and the result was a free header for their scorer. I was not happy with the defence tonight and a better team would have murdered us.
Airdrie fought hard but really had nothing much other than the referee going for them who gave us absolutely nothing. Conroy really must be one of the worst around!
