Checking for Everton news, I noticed that Ruddy does not see much of a career for himself at the Toffees. Could the Burst Pipes :) afford him? The Sassenach is mildly positive about staying if the 'Well get into the EL ...

Motherwell's on-loan ace John Ruddy has conceded his Everton career is almost certainly over following the signing of Jan Mucha.

The Slovakia international joins Tim Howard and Iain Turner at Goodison Park next season and Ruddy believes competition for places means his future lies elsewhere.

Ruddy is currently impressing on a season-long loan at Fir Park and his consistent displays, which have helped Well climb the SPL table, have not gone unnoticed elsewhere.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Scottish giants Celtic, although the talented keeper is treating the paper talk as pure speculation.

Ruddy concedes that that staying with Motherwell would be a more attractive proposition should the club secure Europa League football, however, no decision will be made until the summer.

When asked if he sees a future for himself at Goodison Park, he told Sky Sports News: "No, not now. Not now they've signed another keeper.

"Next season they'll have two keepers, myself and Iain Turner. So I can't see myself playing unless there are injuries or suspensions.

"I've resigned myself to the fact that my time at Everton is at an end, but I've enjoyed it and I've got nothing bad to say about them.

"I'd prefer to go back down south. My family are living around Cambridge so I'd prefer to go down towards that area, but we'll have to look at what comes up this summer and weigh up the options.

"That's the first I've heard of it to be honest," he added on Celtic's reported interest. "You always take with a pinch of salt anyway so, but I didn't read too much into that.

"I've not heard anything (from Celtic). When you're doing OK you tend to get speculation about clubs interested, but until someone sticks a contract in my face I don't read much into it.

"Motherwell aren't the biggest club in the SPL, but they aren't the smallest either. The club has a big pull and that's one of the reasons why I joined in the summer. If they did get into Europe then that's something I'd have to think about."

Ruddy worked with ex-manager Jim Gannon during his time at Stockport and while he is thankful for him bringing him to the SPL he has praised the job done by new management duo Craig Brown and Archie Knox.

The former Cambridge United youngster feels Brown's decision to adopt a consistent back four has benefited all concerned by bringing continuity to the backline.

"I worked with Gannon before at Stockport and he gave me a chance," he continued. "I always got along with him. Perhaps his man-management let him down slightly.

"I think that's something that Craig Brown and Archie Knox have brought to the club. They know how to deal with players, how to speak to them and how to make them feel part of the team when they are not in their plans.

"They've added consistency as well with the starting line-up. I think in the last 10 games we've had the same back four. That says what they are all about. It's all about consistency."

The answer is "probably not". I think he has always been open about his desire to move back down south, while being complimentary of his time at 'Well. I genuinely think he can do well at a higher level - and as much as I'd love to see him stay by any means, I can't see it happening.

Odd that a guy that good wasn't even good enough for Everton reserves....

Must admit I wondered what all the fuss was about with him after he shipped six goals in as many days against Saints back in October, but he was excellent during the week.

Very commanding presence, pretty sure he can do better than the SPL, and becoming third choice at Celtic surely isn't going to be appeal ?

I don't think it would unless he had nothing better - the guy is 23 and this is the first full season he's had and I'm guessing that he won't fancy warming the bench any time soon. He's good enough to get a gig in the Championship at least and clubs there can match any offer Celtic would make for a guy that would be warming their bench.

Jutciewicz in is exactly the same boat - this is his first full season in his career and he won't fancy going back to reserves/sitting in the stand.....

It is writen with a "k" - Jutkiewicz :)
Seeing the lad's season I'm furious that Smuda, the Polish national manager, hasn't called him up yet.
Instead of that ambitionless lazy b*****d and junkiehead primadonna Smolarek the Younger!
However, I fancy Jutkiewicz's chances at Goodison Park higher than Ruddy's - Moyes seems quite happy to use his young outfield players (partly out necessity, though). Rodwell, Vaughan, Gosling ...

Pretty much sums it up

At the moment Everton have 3 better keepers (Howard, Turner and Mucha) for next season all of whom are not that much older so if Ruddy doesnt move on he either has to really improve or accept being a reserve

Jutkieviec on the other hand is a bit younger and whilst isnt there best striker has more chance of getting a few games than Ruddy to show what he can do

I don't think Motherwell can afford Ruddy and reckon he will end up in the Championship. Peterborough anyone? Given they are skint could see Gannon cashing in on Joe Lewis and buying Ruddy as a replacement.

I think both will be off in the summer, thouygh Europe could perhaps keep them but I doubt it.

Good luck to both of them wherever they end up (old firm excluded)

I'd be very surprised if Ruddy and Gannon ever worked with each other again.

Surely that would mean the end of their time at Celtic for either Boruc or Zaluska.

"I remember all of them, and every single one was a deliberate stab through the heart of Hibernian Football Club. Nothing against the fans but you lot have to understand that when Hibs didn't sign me, I wanted revenge. Some folk laugh at that and say: ‘What, all 27?' I suppose maybe 25 were punishment; the other two I banged in just for the hell of it."

How long's Iain Turner been at Everton? Seems like about 10 years.

Yeah you would think so - my guess was that they would punt boruc for £2-3m bring in ruddy for 500k and pocket the difference, but I think i read they were offering Boruc a new contract.

Absolutely NO chance of us retaining John Ruddy. He's way out of our laeague and will likely sign for a Championship club.

I'd love em to stay at motherwell for another season but think it's unlikely they'll stay. Hope Ruddy gets a good move tho and doesn't end up on the bench somewhere. If he keeps regularly playing he could be a really great keeper. Made some outstanding saves this season as well as being a safe pair of hands with the crosses etc. Jutkewizc is also benefitting from playing first team football and seems really happy here, could possibly be convinced to stay on if we keep up the form.

I interviewed Craig Brown just after he took over at Motherwell and according to him a deal was in place including a fee that would allow Ruddy to sign a perm deal at Motherwell.

Ruddy has been excellent for us and while I would love for him to stay I think he could do better. People are saying Championship for him but considering some of the guff that stand between the goalposts in the Premiership week in week out I think he could do a job there. He's young, he's talented, he isn't built like a twig, and most importantly he'll be available for next to nothing in the summer and I'm sure there will be a few clubs looking at Portsmouth and wanting to cut their wage budgets in case something like that happened to them and they could do worse than Ruddy.

The fee is 300k I don't think well could afford this, plus I think ruddy would rather try his luck in the championship/Celtic

doubt it. hughes, porter and malcolm would have bee on that kind of money but i can't see who would be now.

ruddy and lukas are on at least that but i don't think we're paying their full wage. who do you think our other big earners are? we've got a very small, very young squad so we can probably afford to pay a wee bit more for a few players with a bit of extra quality.

maybe you're right, certainly it would be a decent investment as they could probably punt him for 6-700k+ in 6,12,18months - but even including their recent transfers I suspect 300k is too much for them (or for anyone in the SPL, Celtic excluded)

Similar to the handling of Chris Porter, I'd suspect Mr Boyle to again reclaim a higher portion of return on any future transfer fee. Everyone's a winner.
