3-0 did flatter us a bit.

No it didn't.

Very unexpected result yesterday, I was certain we would get hammered with all the injury problems we had,. Also very concerned when Gils, who had started the game well and looking dangerous, and also Noble left the field early as well.

Gormleys shot on the turn seemed to catch out Myles a bit, but couldnt have picked a better time to get his first goal for Alloa.

When I heard McClune was also injured at half time, I thought the best Alloa could get was a point- but they continued to deal with any Stirling threats comfortably, with Prunty dynamite on the break. Prunty was excellent all game- looked like a man with something to prove. You would expect him to score with the chances he got, but still showed his quality by putting them away well.

Ross Philp and the trialist (Danny Main?) never put a foot wrong, and Crawford excellent in goals as per the norm. A great way to bounce back from the Dumbarton game- another game on Tuesday night though which will be even tougher.

Brillaint performance from the Alloa reserves :P Every single one of the player's played superbly especially Gormley. I have been saying to my mate (Hawain1) all week that he would score against Stirling but he wasnt having any of it. So Gaz, GIRFUY :D

The defence played really well considering it consisted of 2 Midfield players, a trialist and Jaffa who was out of position. Thought jaffa was pish in the first 20 mins or so but after that , he played really well i thought. Mark Brown played awesome and seems to play great wherever he plays. The trialist also played good considering he was rushed into the scene and won alot of headers. McClune was solid as usual when he was on and I thought Bomber was class also at RB.

The midfield was solid considering we had so many young players and Philip was playing out of position. Grant was winning lots of tackles in Midfield and Jamie Hay looks a talented player. Thought the best player in midfield was Carroll though , he was chasing everything down and he wasnt scared to put a challenge in.

The front two chased every ball down and worked their socks off. Prunty scored 2 class goals and his celebration for his first was brilliant. Gormley also took his goal well and there was no way Hogarth was saving that 8)

Well played Alloa and hopefully this performance will carry onto Tuesday. Gormley is a bear !

He could do with some subtlety training though in regards to his time-wasting tactics! Posted Image

Agree with this it was puzzling why we were still playing passes and running to goal rather than just playing it into the corner.

I was meaning whenever we had a throw-in or a free-kick in the second half. He would get the ball thrown to him from a ballboy or whoever and then 'pretend' to fumble it and have to go and get it again Posted Image

Just watched the highlighs on stirling website the first penalty claim is the biggest dive ive ever seen and it looked just outside the box too so it wasnt a penalty either way but i have sympathy for the 2nd 1 the alloa player just ran over and bodychecked him out the way

Nobody was claiming a penalty for that. The first penalty claim was when O'Brien was tripped in the 2nd half. It wasn't shown in the highlights.

Looking back at the highlights Stirling did have a fair few chances I had forgotten about. The Ross Philp penalty incident would have been fairly soft had it been given.

I dont think there were 3 goals between the sides but with all the players Alloa had missing it was a brilliant effort by the ones on the park.

Agree 100% . Showed what you can do with young players when you trust and motivate them. Well done Alloa and Mr Maitland.

Great result and a brilliant effort from the Alloa players!

I agree with a lot of the comments on the game.

I thought Stirling started quicker and, for a while, played better football, than us.

Looking at the team, especially after Noble and Gilhaney went off, I feared the worst. Anyway, on come Hay and Gormley.

For the first goal, a bit of a speculative effort from Gormley. Not sure whether Hogarth could/should have done better.

Then McClune doesn’t show for the second half.

As has been said already, Aitken’s dive was embarrassing. Decent player he may be but, on yesterday’s showing, not as good as he thinks he is.
To be the supposed play-maker, taker of free-kicks, corners etc., a definite poor man’s Willie Irvine.

From where I was seated, I too thought that we could easily have had two penalties awarded against us.

Ferguson was absolutely immense, as was Mark Brown. Special mention to Danny Main, who came in and played very well. Prunty worked non-stop and took his goals well. Gambled for his first and nipped in between keeper and defender and was as cool as you like for his second.

Davy Crawford only had only one real save to make – a good strike from Aitken.

I think John Grant would have been taken off if we had any subs left. I was beginning to think he was that one more foul away from getting sent off.

For Alloa, there were no failures (well almost).

Straight away, in my opinion, it was painfully obvious to see just how much out of his depth McCafferty was. Missed every tackle he went into, every header he went for, is too slow and has no positional awareness whatsoever. What’s Larry Haggart doing these days?

And in response to the “he’s young”, “centre half being played out of position” etc. retorts, they may well be true. What’s also true is that he’s just not very good!

For Stirling, Allison (with white tape halfway up his socks) looks like a show pony. SPL quality? Fortunately he was donkeyesque!

Amazed that Taggart was subbed. He was taking McCafferty to the proverbial cleaners.

Forsyth at left back I thought played well. Would definitely like to see him at Alloa.

O’Brien went walkabout, as I’m sure he was shitting himself anytime Bomber went near him.

Had to laugh when Crawford kicked the ball into the stand with about 10 minutes to go. This big white ‘S’ had appeared on the seats. I could have sworn it hadn’t been there a minute previously!

On the way out, I heard one Alloa fan say what a horrendous game he thought it had been and another exclaim that he didn’t know how we’d managed to win.

Just ain’t no pleasing some folk.

Bit harsh on the lad cmon not all centre halfs can adapt to positions look at scott walker when he has played left back he hasnt had the greatest of games and was at fault for peterheads goal at the recs but i didnt see anyone coming on and criticizing him. I just think people have an agenda against mark because he is young and they want a quality left back but we had to work with what we have and criticizing him isnt going to do any better is it? Im just getting annoyed at the criticism of mark because when i said gary carroll struggled in 2 games i got ripped to shreds on here but its ok for everyone else to have a go at a young player out of position.

I did. Or to be more precise I criticised the decision to play him there. Same with McCafferty. He was getting ripped to bits yesterday in the first half particulary. However it is the manager who is playing him there therefore any criticism of McCafferty is a criticism of Maitland. Neither McCafferty or Walker should be anywhere near the LB position. I think we all want to see a quality LB signed. It's all very well to say we have to work with what we have but this problem position should have been sorted a long time ago. Don't know what is happening with Welsh. Heard he had been freed but not had any confirmation of that.

Agree it should have been sorted out in january and we signed an injured welsh and bloom on a short term loan that deal worked well but for whatever reason welsh hasnt been in the team so in all the time hes been at alloa hes played 2 and a half games which is puzzling.

With hindsight Im sure Bloom would have been signed on a loan deal until the end of the season rather than for a month but at that stage the gaffer clearly thought he would have Welsh ready when Bloom's month was up. If Welsh is not going to be available we'll need to get somebody else in (getting Bloom back would do nicely).

Regarding penalty claims Id have liked to see the O'Brien one again as at the time I didnt see it as a realistic claim at all. Was more worried by the Aitken one.

I'll add my tuppenceworth seen as i predicted a win for us before the game.

Hard to take for a few reasons, alloa deserved it based on their defending and taking chances but i didnt exactly come away thinking 'alloa are some team, we're not as good as them' and when you get humped 3 nil it would be easier to take if that was the case.

Nothing in it first half, not seen the video highlights but for me that shot should not have went in, second half, thought we done well and def deserved a goal, despite aitkens cringeworthy dive (he got booked for it, move on), he was blatantly checked and the linesman bottled it, at that point there is no question that alloa were struggling and camped in their own half, had we got that pen i have no doubt that we would have kicked on from that.

Also agree that taggart shouldnt have been taken off, he was getting a lot of joy on the wing and although his final ball wasnt great it could have come good for him and us eventually.

Then the most obvious one, Gibson up front, had a few folk in the stand wondering what was going but you have to give it a chance as Moore knows what he is capable of and maybe had a reason for doing it, but it just wasnt right and the fact he didnt change it was disappointing, espeically given some of the balls we put in the box, when he does finally bring elliot on he seemed to stick him on the right, the guy lacks pace and it was a complete waste of time, bearing in mind taggart was now taking a shower.

This dosent take anything away from alloa, these games make champions, but there is a bit to go yet with teams playing each other at the top of the league and games in hand, sadly for stirling, the winter 'break' seems to have effected the rythym and shape of the team and they arent in a great position now, however things can change quickly, take brechins result on sat for an example of that.....one thing we can all agree on is an exciting run in with plenty of twists and turns is going to be good :)

Yes, I imagine the 3-horse race for the title will be exciting for fans of Alloa, Brechin, and Cowdenbeath.

Admit you would pay to see it though as would most alloa fans i think

Edit: How good was it from an alloa point of view to see dougie wilson back on the bench even though he wont be 100% fit im glad we didnt have to bring hm on on saturday but what a reaction he would have got i hope alloa fans give him the biggest cheer possible on his return, My best memory of dougie is the screamer he scored against stirling last season.

I dont share the same pessimism as my fellow wasps and feel the defeat at Dumbarton may have been a wake up call that we cant just turn up and expect to win games. I thought there was a couple of positives that came from the Dumbarton game, Bomber was immense second half and i thought Gils started to show glimpses again of what he is capable of doing going forward. I think the team have to be confident of taking at least 9 points from the next four games and if we do have ambitions of winning the league then we should be looking to beat Stirling convincingly on Saturday. (which ill fuckin miss because of work....)

Prediction: 4 - 1 Alloa (Noble 2, Prunty, Gilhaney)

Wiznae a kick in the arse off it.
