Just got an email from BY and from December they are increasing speed by 33% so I will be up to 1MB service for my old 512kb cost.

Not bad!

Do you think Inverness can handle the pressure of being top? I think not. Inverness will not be able to handle it.

NTL did this recently too, as a thank you for customers' loyalty. Not quite as good an increase though, mine went from 600kb to 750kb. I'm just waiting with baited breath for the "we have to increase subscription charges" letter.

Good stuff from BY. :)

The Blueyonder service, which will now be 1Mbps, costs £25 per month.
I have used it for a few years and it's great.

On a slightly different topic, has anyone tried "onspeed"?
For an annual fee of £24.99 they promise to increase the speed of broadband by 3X and the speed of dial-up by 5x. Sounds too good to be true.

From what Ive read it is too good to be true in a way.

It works by using a compression technique to produce the higher speeds. I dont remember all the details but I do remember that the compression drastically reduces the quality of images. Therefore, whether or not it would be any good for online gaming or any downloading etc is questionable.

Definetly one of those that you need to seriously research before you go for. Really cant see it being worth it for any broadband users, but if your in an area that cant get ADSL yet (yes there are still some, down here in the sticks lol) might be worth a try.

NTL are also doing this in the coming months. when i signed up in august, it was £17.99 for the 150k, which promptly doubled to 300k. now for £17.99 i will be getting a 1MB data rate!

BY and NTL are always roughly the same with packages. good to see though as the likes of BT are being forced to keep up which is good news for us consumers!

I've had 1 megabit from BT for several months now. Its £3 more per month than 512K

It's restricted to 1 GB of downloads a month <_<

The BT package I have is £29.99 a month but has a 30 GB/month allowance.
