Anyone recommend one?

Only needs to be able to use BT line cause i cant convince my mum to change that

I'm with Tiscali but they are utter balls for gaming, kicking you off ps3 or just giving you slower speeds than dial up for playing it......

they also block p2p so i cant dl stuff or share files with friends for about 20 hours of the day

i have to 8mb package btw

Switch to Virgin Media 10mb package, that's what I have got, they are used on Bt line and they do not block p2p and my speeds never drop when playing my PS3.

I use Pipex and was getting 150kbs download on Vuze (P2P for www.thepiratebay.org) earlier on a up to 8mb connection, so can't complain.

I use be (www.bethere.co.uk).

Their website is absolutely gash since they rebranded it but don't let that put you off, their service is fantastic and you can actually switch your profile online to optimise your service for gaming.

Not the cheapest ISP, but very very good in my experience.

Most internet companies require a BT line, so probably best to keep it. There are a few exceptions, but they don't tend to be the cheaper ones (like Pipex).

As Div says bethere are very good, not cheap but worth it for the speed you get.

Actually, the opposite is true. ISP's who dont use a BT line tend to offer cheaper packages, if you switch your telephone line too - like Sky and Talktalk.

Be operate their own LLU offering, which is why they were one of the first ISP's to offer up to 24Mb connections, although they dont offer a telephone service, which is pretty unusual for LLU operators. It also means that you can only get their service if they have LLU enable at your exchange.

The best speeds you'll get are from cable or LLU operators, not resellers of BT Wholesale lines, in fact theres practically no point in moving from one BT Wholesale ISP to another

MY PHONE LINE ISN'T WITH BT, CAN I STILL GET YOUR SERVICE?
The phone line must be provided by BT in order to get BE's great service.

BE will work with BT lines that are re-sold via other companies (i.e. the Post Office). If you're looking to join BE for the first time, we can tell you whether your current phone line is compatible and whether we supply service to your exchange. Give us a call on 0808 101 3424 to speak to our sales team.

The guy specifically said he couldn't move from BT. I was confirming that he didn't need to for bethere, as your post made it seem as though he would need to change line supplier. He seemed like a kid that doesn't appear as though he'd know anything about what you were talking about, based on his first post.

Look at your first line, any idiot knows that a layman will hear the first term that they don't want to hear and immediately dismiss the information.

Fair enough, but I was replying to your post not the OP. I kinda presumed the OP would read Divs post and take that advice, my reply was to correct what you said in case other people were reading this and thought that staying with BT was a good thing.

I thought that was pretty obvious from all the lines in the post

We use TalkTalk, and they're actually pretty good. Despite our constant use of the internet we've never overshot our download limit and the connection's pretty strong.

Never had much of a problem with Virgin. Been with them for a few years and they have steadily upgraded us from a 2mb to 20mb with no extra cost to us. Sometimes you get the odd loss of connection but nothing like my pals seem to get. My Dad gets mightly pissed off that he can't phone up about it, though, as they only discuss with the account holder.
