Anyone else hooked on emulators on the PC?I like a bit of nostalgia,I have good working emulators for the Spectrum,Amiga,Mega Drive,Super Nintendo,Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1.
There is also a Dos emulator for the PC called DosBox which lets you play all those ancient Dos games you have stashed away form the early PC days.

I used to, but havent for ages.
I have a few old DOS games which I did fire up a few months ago, but I always found that not having the right controller spoiled the console emulators.
Anything further back, like the Amiga, C64 etc suffer from a bit of selective memory - ie their not as good as I remembered them
There are some decent sites where you can play C64, and spectrum (like anyone would want to), games online.

I've got a few Spectrum emulators and virtually every game ever released for the machine, and I play it regularly. Some of the games are utterly timeless.
I also play my Amiga emulator quite a bit. I've got one for the C64 as well, but why play that when you have better versions of the same games on the Speccy.
Somewhere on my PC, I've got SNES and Megadrive emulators too, but they rarely see the light of day.
Oh, and MAME as well. The arcade versions of Bombjack and Moon Cresta rock!

Re-downloaded a megadrive emulator a couple of weeks ago so i can play shining force 2, golden axe, sensible soccer, toejam and earl, altered beast, James Pond, lion king, aladdin, cool spot, streets of rage and other games of my childhood again.
these games are far more enjoyable than games nowadays. Shining Force 2 is the greatest game in the history of games.

The PSX ones are far too complicated for me
Are there any that are just Download Emulator -> Install Emulator -> Download Rom -> Load Rom into Emulator -> Play Game?

Aye, the SNES, N64, and Megadrive ones do that. The C64 and Speccy ones are even simpler.
The Amiga one requires a 'kickstart rom' to be d/loaded first, but after that it's the same deal as above.

Yeah, I didn't quite phrase that properly. I've used Gameboy and Megadrive emulators before, and I was just wondering if there were any PSX ones that were as simple to use.
To be honest, I think I'll just go back to Sonic again...

Cheers, I couldn't get my head round the BIOS thing, but it turns out it was frighteningly simple...
I've got a PS2 controller that plugs into my laptop, so this will be great!
Now, to remember what the good games are...

I not long ago completed Heimdall on my Amiga emulator. I've been playing it since I was a wee kid, and it feels so good to finally complete it.

Yeah i was a bit confused by that at first, turns out thats just the "illegal" bit, and all you have to do is have a quick wee chat with mr google then bobs your uncle.

Totally agree with this. The only time I've been able to get into console emulators is on the PSP.
Any opinions are not necessarily my own but those of the BBC.

I bought a Joypad with 12 buttons and find that it configures quite well to most emulators.
There is also a nifty wee utility called XPadder that allows you to program keyboard keys to Joypad buttons.

Are you just downloading them in stuff like 7 parts? Seems a bit longwinded, to me.

I'm still having brilliant fun with Syphon Filter, there's a couple of wee things that aren't quite right but it's still fantastic.
One thing is that the cut-scenes, and radio transmissions seem to cut short quite a lot, leading to amusing stuff like...
"He's wearing full body armour! To beat him, you'll have to..."
