it's about bloody time the IOC start having olympics outside of the usual suspects.

I've just watched the actual moment when it was announced, the brazilian's went nuts!

Ive seen the clip where the guy goes " has been awarded to the city of......LONDON" that many bloody times, I was shocked that he said a different country!

Slightly surprised it went Rio. Both due to logistical questions - and having WC in 2014. Then again... it was in the US so much in the latter half of the 20th Century (and the Winter Olympics is there quite a lot); Madrid had issues, Spain had it in 1992. Never been to South America and Havelange factor...?

This now effectively rules Japan out of World Cup 2018/2022 btw. They'd said their bid conditional on revamp of Tokyo Olympic Stadium to meet FIFA's 80,000 rules. Mexico already withdrawn from it too.
