Generally, the women's world records aren't worth the paper they are written on!

It is quite farcical, from Griffith-Joyner right through to the field athletes from the communist countries that were only a couple of balls away from being men in the eighties. You look down the list and you're at Dibaba in the 5000m before you get one that's clean.

Couple of the men's field ones have to be considered dodgy as well.

On a seperate note, I was interested to read today that only two men not of West African descent have ever gone sub-10 seconds: they being Frankie Fredericks (NAM) and Patrick Johnston (AUS).

Is Jason Gardener of West African descent? He's down as running a 9.98 seconds in Lausanne in July 1999.
Fascists against Beatson.

WOW!
It's getting kind of hard to believe things are going to get better. I've been drowning too long to believe that the tide is going to turn. And I've been living too hard to believe things are going to get easier now. I'm still trying to shake off the pain from the lessons I've learned. And if I see Van Helsing, I swear to the lord I will slay him. AHA HA HA. He take you from me but I swear I won't let it be so. AHA HA HA. Blood, will run done his face, when he is decapitated AH! His head on my mantle is how I will let this world know...how much I love you.
Die, die, die....I can't

19.30 from Bolt. Before that it was 19.32 from Johnson.

Someone should check his trainers for rockets.

I am shocked, he is shattered and hasn't been training that well, I think Under 19 and under 9 seconds isn't that wild a shout.

From Bolt himself:

Quote

"Tonight I can definitely say I didn't expect it. I was tired but I thought 'what the heck, let's try'. I ran hard and now I'm really tired! Next time perhaps I shall just run the 100m or 200m alone. I wasn't running upright - it wasn't a good race but it was a fast one."

f**k's sake.
What is my perfect crime? I break into Tiffany's at midnight. Do I go for the vault? No. I go for the chandelier - it's priceless. As I'm taking it down a woman catches me. She tells me to stop. It's her father's business. She's Tiffany. I say 'no'. We make love all night. In the morning the cops come and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico, but I go to Canada. I don't trust her. Besides, I like the cold. Thirty years later I get a postcard. I have a son and he's the chief of police. This is where the story gets interesting: I tell Tiffany to meet me in Paris, by the Trocadero - she's been waiting for me all these years; she's never taken another lover. I don't care, I don't show up. I go to Berlin. That's where I stash the chandelier.

It's scary to think what he can achieve if he stays motivated and injury free. Astonishing piece of running. :o

No way he - anyone - could break 9 seconds in the 100m. But he'll be below 19 seconds in the 200m by the end of next year, barring injury. Unless he saves up his next fast run for the next World Championships.

Really? He'd have to average about 9.49 per 100m to do that. I know he has more time to go at it full pelt over an extra 100m but that would be truly remarkable.

I think Bolt should undergo a 'human' test.

The 200m world record is usually a little under twice the 100m world record because of the time it takes to get to top speed, and clearly that doesn't happen twice in a 200m race. If they put 100% effort in from the start, the top athletes don't really start slowing down until after about 150m, so there's no reason the average speed in a 200m race shouldn't be at least as high as in a 100m.

If you believe he can do under 9.5 for the 100m, you should believe he can do under 19 for the 200m.

Yeah I understand that but I suppose when he does it I'll maybe believe you. :P

The guy's a machine though. He'll set some unbeatable times before he packs it in.
