Not been to the Flyers for about a year now. It's been pretty shite since they started playing the same teams 50 times a season!

Only been to see the Flyers once. Think they won and there was one player for the opposition who got Sin Binned about 10 times

The Scottish setup is a disgrace to be honest. I try my best to avoid it at all costs.

It's actually easier for me to get the train through to Edinburgh to watch professional hockey than it is to get to Braehead to watch the Pirates as well, and doesn't cost a whole lot more.

Not that the whole UK setup in general is much better, of course. It needs completely revamped from top to bottom. I'm a huge fan of the sport, but it needs sorted out.

Its probably as similar a sport to football as you can get, but there's a few confusing rules as well. The offside rule is probably slightly harder to get used to than in football too.

And that's not to mention all the different kinds of penalties you get.

I used to watch the Pirates at the Lagoon before their move to Braehead. Stopped going once they moved. Seems to have really hurt the team, they used to be a decent side, winning a few trophies in the SNL. Last season I think they were terrible, didn't win a single game as they could barely get any players. It's a real shame, it was only about 10 years ago they were in the BNL, and about 4 or 5 years ago they were doing brilliant in the SNL, challenging Dundee, Fife and Solway to the league, Spring and Autumn Cups. Now they are pretty much f*cked.

Flyers are the oldest ice hockey team in the UK, formed in 1938, which is some going in such a franchise-driven sport.

I took in a few games in the Dave Stoyanovich era (ask yer Da!)

The Flyers were one of the best teams in Britain in the mid-80s. That was a golden period for Scottish ice hockey as you also had Murrayfield Racers and Dundee Rockets battling for the British League title. Ayr Bruins weren't too far behind. Funnily, Glasgow were always pish.

It's a disgrace that the UK's oldest Ice Hockey team is playing in, what is to all extents and purposes, a junior league.

My old man played for the Flyers as a youth alongside Kenny Horne, Gordon Latto etc and even he refuses to watch them now. Sad state of affairs.

Story seems to repeated time and time again. I used to watch the Ayr Scottish Eagles too when I moved to Ayrshire and I saw them win the Grand Slam in 97/98 and now they don't even exist.

Was it my first game at the weekend there vs Solway. We had a few players missing but the play is boring bordering on tears at time. Game only kicked off after Sloway went 1-0 up with about 5 minutes left where Flyers stepped up a few gears and won 2-1.

The standard is awful though. The amount of bad plays, passes and the inability of some players to even control a puck first time is unbelievable. I play a different type of hockey but genuinly believe I could play as well as them after a number of weeks training to get used to the sport.
