I don't follow golf very much any more, but when I used to watch Monty after a duff shot in a Major you could see the rage in his face, usually played the next few holes badly ruining his chances.

Indeed. His behaviour on course, when things aren't going well, is disgraceful.

Strangely, even after a poor round, he usually manages to give an excellent TV interview. Pity he doesn't take the same approach on the course.

Indeed it is. He is a fanny.

I'm surprised given the thousands of hours spent honing his game that he appeared never to appreciate how important the mental side of the game was.

His goal against Newcastle where he flicked it past a couple of defenders before sidefooting into the corner on the volley remains the best goal I've ever seen.

He could even make scoring a penalty look sublime.

Le Tiss is the second coming of Andy Ritchie, FACT.

Also, at the risk of going off topic - I seem to remember seeing a "worst strip" thread on here somewhere. Southampton's new away kit takes that honour hands down.

That's my favourite LeTissier moment too, just beautiful. And what I always liked most about it was the way he drew his foot back and you thought he was about to blast it and instead he just stroked it into the corner.

Or that's what I always thought anyway, until I saw him interviewed about it recently and he admitted he just miskicked it. Still a great goal though.

I do not think Le Tiss would be happy being discussed in a "cheating in golf thread"!. He once caddied on the Tour for Robert Rock.

That being said I too like non-athlete footballers. They have to be so good to reach any sort of level these days. Chic Charnley was another but you probably picked the best with Ritchie and Le Tiss. Neil Webb too did well for a while.

Like it or not, the European tour has a poorer quality of field.

Have to disagree there. In the mid to late nineties when Monty was at his height yes the US Tour was far stronger but the strength in depth on the European tour now is better than ever. It's certainly on a par quality wise at the moment.

No it isn't. The ET has improved a lot, but I don't think the quality of fields matches the US tour.

In the years Montgomerie was dominating in Europe, the best players in the world were playing in america weekly. This Race to Dubai thing makes it a lot more global.

Since the golf world rankings were first introduced, only eight men have had more weeks inside the top 10 than Montgomerie.

Not that it means a helluva lot, but it does show he was consistent for a good few years.

Sandy Lyles reputation as a golfer died the day he NR'd from the Open after about half a round. Treating a major like a Saturday morning junior comp? f**k right off.

Nonsense Jimmy. He will still have won two majors, a players, and I think briefly world number 1.
I think his reputation will stand the test of time.

Did Faldo's reputation as a golfer die the day that he and DJ Spoonie made an arse of winning the Ryder Cup?
Of course not. Brilliant golfer. Knob of a bloke.
