Back on my soapbox ref costs for golf spectators. Just tried to get a room in the Ayr District and an ordinary 2* out at Whitletts is asking £400 per night this week ...... ouch :o

Sorry to hear that. I got his autograph the last time the Open was at Turnberry when he was relatively unknown. I also managed to get Ernie Els' by tagging onto a group of South African kids! Suppose they must be the only two players who had a chance at winning it that have played Turnberry before?

I was 10 the last time the Open was at Turnberry and went on the practice days. Due to the rain the only one I got on the Tuesday was Nick Price - who won it. Maybe I should go tomorrow, get one autograph and stick a shitload of money on him to win

Really looking forward to this weekend - Kaymer must be worth a wee each way punt, as long as Harrington doesn't win it I'll be chuffed!

Going up for a practice day, since it's not far.

Betting on KJ Choi as usual.

You may not be aware of this, but Monday is the tenth anniversary of one of finest attempts to play the 72nd hole of a major championship.

See it in all it's glory here (you should be able to find part two easily enough): http://www.youtube.c...h?v=4XU94TwmmYk

I was only 9 when that happened, and having watched it back, his collapse was worse than I remembered. The only thing that comes close in recent times is Thomas Bjorn at Sandwich.

I remember Lawrie finishing about 3 hours before everyone else, and then all of the leaders suddenly falling back towards him. It was quite an incredible achievement to score 67 on the last day when almost everyone else posted rounds over 70. More impressive was his score in the play-off when the pressure was on.

He spent most of those three hours out on the driving range in the vain hope there was a playoff!

Got my dates wrong, think it's Saturday that's the tenth anniversary, not Monday. A fun day watching the golf that one :)

So who is everyone picking?

Kaymer is the form player and could be worth a shout. Though Links golf is a hell of alot more difficult than the bennine conditions at Loch Lomond.

Think I'm picking Jim Furyk. Good solid player who has the game to win at Turnberry

Good choice. I usually go for him or Henrik Stenson. No idea why.

This year I' think I'll put money on both Adam Scott and Kraymer.

Might just have a small e/w punt on David Duval. I know since winning the open in 2001 his game went to pieces but there have been signs in the past year or so that he is getting his act together again.
He loves the open and finished in the top 4 in the US Open recently. Another former Open champion worth keeping an eye on is Ben Curtis who has been showing decent form in the majors in the past couple of years.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that a European will win it and it'll be a first timer. I might stick 50p e/w on Westwood, Poulter and Fisher. Then again, they'll probably all miss the cut. I hate betting on golf.

Is it not pretty rare that a player wins the week before a major then the major itself? Kaymer has won the last two so has no chance on that theory - although Levet gave it a good go after winning Loch Lomond in 2004.

Choi is usually there or thereabouts in the Open until the third or fourth round and then he falls back a bit.

Dunno who I'd go for to win, think it will be someone who already has a major under their belts rather than a first timer.

I've got a not insignificant amount on Henrik Stenson to finish in the top 10 at 4/1.
His last 4 majors are T3, T4, T38 & 9th, and he won the Players 2 months ago. He also took a couple of weeks off before this tournament as he often does before majors, think he'll be raring to go and will be better prepared than most others.

I had a fiver in my ladbrokes account, so cleared that out.

A few bookies are paying up to 7th place, but Ladbrokes are only paying Top 5.

Kjeldsen at 125 is fantastic too, he's been on a bit of a role and very consistant with his form of recent.

I did spot that one too, great odds. I've plumped for Adam Scott at 55/1 with Sky Bet. Almost all the odds with Sky Bet are better than the others.

I was out for a meal with my g/f at the time and they were showing it on TV there. He got away with a dreadful tee shot. When he pulled out the 2 iron, my bird was somewhat surprised to see me asking the TV set "why the f**k are you hitting a 2 iron. Get a 7 out you twat". It just got worse from there.

Idiot.

A turd of such epic proportions it has to be released in three installments. The first can stand on its own as a complete adventure. The second links to the first, but has a dark, inconclusive feel generating an air of foreboding and leaving itself wide open for an unknown ending. The final chapter has drama, excitement and moments where you think all is lost. A grand battle is waged where good overcomes evil and peace is restored in your gut.
