Only been to the open once before, at Troon, and managed to blag a free ticket for the final day.
Planning on heading down for at least one day this time round but wasn't sure about tickets.
I've been told you can usually just pay on the day (only St Andrew's sells out) rather than getting tickets before hand, but can't see anything about this on the Open website.

Anyone know what the script is? Plan to go Saturday and/or Sunday

You can pay on the day no problem, it would be very surprising if it does! Can get combined Train/Golf tickets too.

I was planning to go, but then I heard it was £55 a pop, which is a bit steep IMHO. For two of us - £110 plus train at £12 or fuel/parking. Bit unaffordable at the moment, but I'll think about it. I'm sure last time I went, Carnoustie I think it was £40- the Scottish open at Loch Lomond next week, which granted isn't as good a field is £60 for 5 days!

Ticket info here.

Have to say i think in these times £55 is a bit heavy.

The pricing is ridiculous. I was lucky enough to work at St Andrews and Troon a few years back and spent half my time launching my pass into the car park to get my pals in.

It's a brilliant atmosphere if you get the weather and probably worth a visit at least once. I wasn't a big golf follower until I worked there and now try to watch all the majors.

55 quid is an absolute rip off.

Thought about heading down myself for a day, probably would have been the 1st day to see all the players, (just incase Tiger misses the cut). Will see how i feel nearer the time.

Should be a good spectacle though. Tiger is back, Phil is playing on emotion and the European lot are contending for the big ones more reguarly.

Cant see a Harrington three-peat as his form is a bit wonky this year.

I agree but unfortunately everything about golf is a rip off. From the green fees to the ridiculous cost of decent clubs.

Again, I agree. The fucking idiot has changed his swing. The swing that won him three majors

Managed to sneak in at Carnoustie in 07 with relative ease. I really fancied going down to Troon for this, but £55 does seem a bit out of the budget.
If any locals know ways to sneak in, post away on here please.. B)

Apart from not going, the TV coverage is excellent of both the Open and Scottish. I'm sure last year you could get almost 12hours of coverage.

You could probably sneak into Troon no bother. Not that it'll do you any good...

Troon (when the open is there) was always easy to sneak into. People used to jump over the railway onto the course esp in 1997. They put the police along it last time to try and stop it.

I wont be going this time. £55 for an ordinary day ticket is a joke in this economic climate. When you consider parking and a few refreshments then, there is a £ton x2 gone for a day's spectating! ..... no way.

Have been to the Open at Troon and Turnberry in the past for free. My turncoat glory hunting (used to be an Ayr fan) blue-nosed *** of a brother in law used to try and ingratiate himself with me and she who must be obeyed by getting us free hospitality tickets for the open when it came to Ayrshire, which he got through being a logistics manger at the old DEC plant in Ayr. OK glad to have had the experience but, he is still a c**t and glad he is no longer my bro in law.

Yeah, i'll be going with my old boy on the Thursday with a Wednesday night stay in Glasgow. £55 is fucking ridiculous but it's a good day out and I don't see much of my old boy these days so it's worth it for me.

I'll have a punt on Kenny Perry and a sentimental punt on Lee Westwood.

£55 may seem steep but what money would you expect to pay to see a world cup final? This is the golfing equivalent.

The Open is indeed an absolute rip off. I worked at Carnoustie at 2007, and from the moment you come in the gate to the moment you leave, unless you have the sense to bring some food with you, you'll be utterly flayed.

I'd much rather sit at home with a few beers and watch it on a big telly. Much better.

A turd of such epic proportions it has to be released in three installments. The first can stand on its own as a complete adventure. The second links to the first, but has a dark, inconclusive feel generating an air of foreboding and leaving itself wide open for an unknown ending. The final chapter has drama, excitement and moments where you think all is lost. A grand battle is waged where good overcomes evil and peace is restored in your gut.

Good to see the Saltman brothers qualify for next week. Hopefully one of them can have a good go at winning the amateur prize.

Trivia geeks might be interested to know that they're the first brothers to qualify for The Open since Seve and Manuel back in the 80's.

Mickelson has pulled out, as his mother as well as his wife is now suffering from cancer. Poor lad.
