I am about to purchase a few reigon 1 dvd's from play.com and was wondering if they will work on my player? My dvd player is multi-reigon but does it come already to confined to these settings or do you need to unlock them?
Cheers

I think it will be ok, if it says multi region. Not 100% sure though, someone like Winston Smith, who is a dab hand on DVDs will probably have more info

I have a multi region but I had to unlock it. I magine it depends on the DVD player. May I respectfully suggest you have a look at the instructions?

I'd have thought if it was multi region it would be all ready to go. My DVD player is region 2 but I found a website that give instructions for 'unlocking' it so that it will play discs from any region. I've never done it as I only have region 2 discs, but the site says that it doesn't adversely affect your player.

Try this one DVD reviewer and use their search facility to locate your player and the relevent hack.
However if your DVD is already multi-region then it'll automatically play anything.

You must have been typing that as I was typing my post! I can't remember the name of the site. I think I just googled 'unlocking dvd players' or something like that. It had the codes for loads of different manufacturers.

Not technically minded at all.
Bought a DVD player recently as I'd bought 4 DVD's in Cambodia, US$2 each. Hey presto, they work
Going out again soon. Yip, I'll def get some more.

A question?
Can a DVD which is a language course for use on a PC, work on a DV player?
There are English instructions on TV screen, but, don't understand the codes. Anyone advise??

I once worked with a guy who got something from Thailand for a tenner, don't think it was a DVD though.

Any DVDs bought in Cambodia will be actually pirates and will have no region coding.
If you bought a multi regional player, it will automatically play any region coding. I have regions 1 2 3 and 4 in my collection and all play fine. In fact most region 4 discs will also play on Region 2 players.
If you are going to smuggle in Pirated DVDs, take a CD case with you and a Walkman. So at the very least it looks like you already had the stuff before entering the country.

I can echo HTTT's advice following a little run in I had with a burly customs chap in Amsterdam!
Put it this way, I had to bat a few eyelids and plead total ignorance of the law!
