because an additional wire sticking out the back of an xbox won't stop the thing from breaking which was of greater concern to me than going online

I'm ASTOUNDED at that. I phoned them up when my PS3 broke and it was 41 days out of warranty - £145 for a replacement.
Shocking.
Shocking.
Unfortunate, should have had continuous play.

Yep, didn't know about it til the day after I had phoned by which time I obviously couldn't claim.
You know they've stopped the CP scheme now?

Yeah, their reassessing the claims because of the amount of people entering contracts the day their PS3 breaks and getting replacements, then canceling. Their not taking any new policies, but ive had it for months now, they cant just up and leave the agreement while their still charging.

My PS3 has given up the ghost.
It has stopped playing any of the CDs. Apparently read somewhare, the new firmware can cause the laser to burn out. Anyway £99 pounds to get it picked up and replaced.
I am seriously thinking f**k them and going back to PC gaming, as to be honest the games I like playing (champ man, proper RPG, God type sims, space combat / traiding sims) do not seem to be on PS3 or X Box. all it is is shootem ups or sport. Which I cant understand why, these consols are as powerful as a PC and I dont buy this interface thing, just keep it the same, both have capabillity for mouse, keyboard and joystick

Here is my problem that I e-mailed to Sony last night.
I have a Playstation 3 (80GB) which I purchased in October 2008 from Amazon. From that point I was using the PS3 with a Toshiba 37 inch LCD television through an HDMI cable which caused me no problems whatsoever. In May 2009 I purchased a 42 inch LG42 PQ600 plasma television and switched the HDMI cable into this television. The PS3 started up in HDMI no problem and I played it on this TV for a few weeks. I then switched the HDMI cable back into the Toshiba television and I think I played it no problem on the same day. The very next day when I switched on my playstation 3 the TV was displaying 'no signal'. I tried to sort the problem with no joy and in the end I just used the SCART from then until now thinking the HDMI would work ok with the new TV when I moved into my new flat.
I have now moved into a new flat and have the LG television. When I started up the PS3 I have been met with the same 'no signal' message. I have tried several HDMI cables with no success so I believe the cables to be ok. The HDMI input icon on the TV is grey until I switch the playstation 3 on, at which point it goes black so it certainly seems to acknowledge when the PS3 has been switched on through the HDMI cable. I can get a PS3 message on the screen to say that HDMI source has been detected and would I like to output through this. I select 'yes' and then the screen goes black and nothing happens at all. I have tried both leaving this for about a minute and also changing the input from SCART to HDMI at this point (again comes up with 'no signal'). I have also tried selecting 'no' and trying to go to PS3 display settings and changing to HDMI with no joy.
It seems as though the PS3 is acknowledging there is an HDMI cable connected to it, the TV is accepting there is an HDMI cable connected to it and that the cables are ok. For some reason the PS3 will just not start up through the HDMI cable. When both TV's were originally connected to the PS3, they automatically started up using HDMI but this is not happening now. I also read on forums that holding the power button for 5 seconds when switching on may solve the problem but I have tried this as well and it hasn't done anything.
Do you have any advice on what else I can try as it is driving me mental!?
I look forward to your response and thank you in advance for your assistance. If you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact me.
Should I try holding the power on button for 15-20 seconds? Does anybody else have any idea what the problem is. It's annoying the f**k out of me

Had this problem when i switched from my TV's. Have you tried turning off the PS3, then holding in the power button until the second beep? I had to repeatedly try this to get it to work.
Apart from that i dont see what the problem could be.

I'll try holding it in for a bit longer tonight although I have done it a few times to get a second beep. I like the sound of them delivering me a new one and taking this one away as I'm at my wits end with it. Playing Pro Evo through the SCART is shit having been used to playing it through the HDMI!

My PS3 broke after about 4 weeks. Wouldn't load up games or owt. Apparently it was some common fault with them and they sent for it to be picked up the day as they delivvered me my new one.

When you were doing this did you connect through the SCART as well or just the HDMI?

Well i had mine set up through just the HDMI.
Then i moved to my brothers TV and had to set it up through a scart, which wasnt the default set up on the PS3 so i had to hold the button in. (With just the scart).
Then when i reverted back to my TV i just had the HDMI and had to hold the button in again.

Then the game freezes when i pause the game. switch off and put it back on again and it freezes at the main menu. same sort of thing happens with any other game... freezes after buot half an huor
Will this holding the on button down for 15 seconds work or should i phone sony?

Phone Sony, the last problem was just his TV not recognizing the picture. Yours sounds like an actual fault maybe with the Blu Ray drive. Hope you didnt buy it too long ago.
