Ps3 Is Deed

My PS3 has finally died today, after a year and a half, decided to f**k up. Heres the story, on saturday I had the PS3 on my HDTV with HD cable for the first time, so I changed all the settings bla bla. Then today when I put it back on my normal SDTV its completely f**ked. Started off getting sound but no picture, then got both but on the home screen i had no things to scroll down to (like on settings theres display settings, network settings etc.) so I has none of them. Then i turned it on and I did have the icons, but it was frozen. After turning it on and off atleast 20 times it worked!!! :D

But then, as I clicked on fifa, it just froze, couldnt do anything. When I try and turn it off by using the dualshock it says the PS3 is off but the green light flashes and the blue one stays on solid.

So, is my PS3 fooked or is there a solution? Thanks :D :(

Sounds strange. Have you got a yellow light? ie YLOD? Have you phoned Sony? Their call centres are extremely helpful. What model is it? When did you get it?

I read about the YLOD on PS3 forums but its not yellow, I was gonna ring them as a last resort, but probably will tomorrow sometime. Its a 40gb and I got it in January 08.

This might be a bit too late mate but the same thing happened to me, i called sony and they talked me through how to do this master reboot thing, it involved holding in the power button for 15 seconds a few times, i can't really remember.

Once i done this it worked no bother.

Your best solution would be to get an Xbox 360.

The new 360's don't RROD if they are taken care of. In fact, the old 360's wont RROD if they are taken care of. My 360 is now 3 years old and the only problem I've ever encountered was the result of a sh*t internet connection.

Xbox's are for scumbag students who buy it cause it's cheaper than the mighty PS3. If you want to go down the route of buying a Xbox then you would be as well drinking warm cider and puchasing a box of beef space raiders and having a ball.

You own a PS3 so your alright :D :D :D

SeanThePar - See the comment just above yours from Pub Car King, this is what they told me to do on the phone, i held in the power button for 15-20 seconds and it kinda beeped twice as if it rebooted itself, i then turned it on via the wireless controller and when it booted up it was fine.

Good luck! Nothing worse that your PS3 not working, it's like a death in the family!

Not as far as I'm aware. The newer models use a different motherboard and it's different (more heat tolerant) solder thats holding the components onto the motherboard and bridging any gaps. Obviously solder (even heat tolerant solder) can only be heat tolerant up to a point, so if you're going to be stupid with your Xbox and cover the ventilation holes and things like that (other things could include keeping it in direct sunlight for another example) then obviously problems will occur. Like I said though, I have taken good care of my Xbox and it's not even hinted at falling over.

Right folks, done that wee trick and it worked, thanks folks!

BUT, everytime I load up my PS3 now, it says the system hardware is corrupt and wants to restore the system. Does that mean i will lose all my game save data and my account?

You might have to do a full rebuld of the hard drive as it sounds like somethings corrupt, im not sure how to do this though.

Phoned and their advice was to keep turning it on until you can see the settings, then just back up all my files and do a full restore. Turned it on and off for about an hour and still cant get to the settings.

I'm ASTOUNDED at that. I phoned them up when my PS3 broke and it was 41 days out of warranty - £145 for a replacement.

Shocking.
