PHILLIES 1 BRAVES 4

This game was over before it even got started. An absolutely shocking early pitching display by Brett Myers sent the Braves on there way.

McCann,Francouer and the very impressive rookie Schafer all hit Homers in the 1st 2 innings. The Phillies solitary run came in the 8th when Werth singled to left bringing home Pinch Hitter Bruntlett.

The Phillies Offence was non existant with last years NL MVP Ryan Howard going 0 for 4 with 2 Strikeouts.

Braves Pitcher Derek Lowe had an absolute stormer, throwing 8.0 Inns for 2 hits and 4 Strikeouts,2 of which were Howard.

Overall very disapointing fom the defending World Champs, but the Braves (who the majority said would struggle for powe this year) were exceptional.

Nit pick time - their runs came in the 9th, and Lowe only K'd Howard 1 time - it was Gonzalez who got him to K in the 9th when he was the tieing run.

Great performance from the braves - but not without some worries. One of the main problems last year was moving runners when we get them in scoring position - and in 1 inning Escobar had a lead off double, then Chipper, B-Mac and Anderson all stranded him on 2B. What is more shocking is that Chipper was a major let-down then. We had a great first 2 innings, then let Myers off the hook when we should have compounded the misery and scored more. Nervy last inning as zanetti said - but Gonzo came through in the end. A win is a win :) and Lowe will be pitcher of opening day for all teams.

by the way - i don't know if it is raining today in Philly, or if it is tears from all the Philly fans after last nights disappointment. ;)

Just settling down for the Reds vs Mets matchup.

Think this could be a good 1 with the Mets taking it I think.

Watching Yankees, started off ok went 1-0 up then fell apart and was 6-1 down though they have now pulled it back to 6-5 at top of the 7th game on.

That Arizona v Colorado game was a funny one, 8-7 after 5 innings with 2 guys who are normally very solid getting hit all over the place (Cook too)

Cliff Lee was another who got rocked, i think the Indians are really going to regret not managing to trade him.

Best pitcher of opening days so far - D Lowe by a country mile :D

Yankees 5 Orioles 10
Sabathia was abysmal though I think it was just opening day nerves. Great win for Baltimore though might b the kick start they need for a decent season.

Cubs 4 Astros 2
Zambrano is awesome. Thought the Astros struggled to do anything right and were only left with a chance due to the Cubs not driving the nail in.

Angels 3 Athletics 0
Expected the Angels to win with ease and did only giving up 3 hits. Was it just me or did Vlad look a bit out of sorts last night? Is he struggling with an injury?

Nationals 6 Marlins 12
Only caught highlights of this and the Nationals look like there gonna struggle again this year. Ramirez was impressive last night. MVP canditite?

Twins 1 Mariners 6
Griffey Jnr is still hitting well. Impressive opening day win for the Mariners.

Really enjoyed this matchup (espicially the final outcome). That was some at bat by Daniel Murphy for his home run, espically considering his experience. Good to see the mets bullpen being able to hold a lead for Johan.

Lets Go Mets!!

Reds-mets was the match I enjoyed most over the opening 2 days.
johan threw the ball very well, such a talented player. The mets bullpen has to be the strongest in the league

If healthy, i would say the Braves could rival them. The Phillies definitely can. The Mets problem isn't the 8th and 9th innings, it is the rest of the bullpen.

Giants are on for a record 162-0 season, with a thumping 10-6 win over the Brewers including three homers.

No normal would be losing both games! This is progress ;)

Seriously though the Mariners shouldnt be as bad as previous years, I no that injury has robbed them of there most influential player for the start of the campaign but there looking slightly stronger than 08.

Griffey will add leadership and experience to the ball club that will hopefully rub off on some of the younger guys.

Pitching staff need some work though.

Braves now 2-0 for the year, beating Philly twice in their own stadium, holding them to just 1 Run doing so. Marvelous.

p.s. someone on the braves board made up this funny animation:-

Haha, WHAT A GAME! Braves hitting was quite remarkable early doors - Blanton was throwing good pitches but was getting nailed. Then the bullpen totally implodes, couldn't throw a strike at all.... 8 runs on 4 hits in the 7th for us, gotta love it. Lights On gave up a homer in the 9th but we were never going to choke like the Braves did.

Philadelphia WIP 610 radio online broadcast is always worth a listen after a game like this....

Phillies vs Braves was an instant classic. Cracking watching.

Just watched the rays beat the red sox. Rays were very impressive. Think they have a decent shot at the World series this year.

This probably won't get any thought in other places, but Nick Adenhardt- the Angels stud young pitcher was killed in a car accident, just hours after pitching 6 shutout innings last night. Tragic stuff:-

Adenhardt killed

Thankfully, the guy has been caught and is going to spend quite a bit of time in jail.

Just read the breaking story on MLB.com. Horrific news and I hope the b*****d who caused it gets sent down for serious jail time.

Thoughts go to his family

Very scary incident from the Gianst and Brewers game yesterday. Joe Martinez hit full in the face with a line drive. Fortunately, it seems he is okay.

Very scary, but seems to be ok. Walked off under his own power and his CT scan came back ok.

Tigers are battering the Rangers 7-0 in the 4th

Just an update on Giants rookie Joe Martinez. He's got a triple hairline fracture of the skull. No internal bleeding, fortunately, and he'll be in hospital for three or four days. He's going on the 15 day DL, if anyone in our league was prescient enough to draft him. Seems there will be no lasting damage though, which is remarkable considering what happened.
