Alloa trialist against Stirling today was Danny Main who I believe plays for Bo'ness.

QoS had two Trialists on Saturday at Dundee. Darren Young started in midfield. As stated above, the unused sub was former Motherwell striker Mark Archdeacon.

Anton Nugent was the keeper.
Now some of you may not agree with my methods and techniques I employ. To those people, all I will say to you, is let us save this mans life and we can have a post mortem afterwards.

Darren Young started again for us in midfield against Raith. He was injured during the warm up though and managed only 10 minutes before he had to go off!

I suspect we won't see him again.

Thread seems to have gone quiet? Trialist for QoS yesterday v Falkirk was Colin McMenamin apparently. Have any of the other released Dundee players appeared as trialists recently?

Don't think so.

Shimmin and Curier are currently injured of course. We've already admitted that Paton is training with us and someone told me yesterday that Brian Kerr was as well, though I didn't hear it at the club and don't know if there's any truth in it or not. Paul McHale is training with Alloa but wasn't included in their 16 yesterday. I've no idea at all about Fox, Grant or Kuqi though I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fox was also training with us given he was here last season.

Thanks SD. And what are the rules on trialists? Is there a maximum number of trialists that can be played in one game, one season? Is the trialist himself limited to appearances for a particular club or number of clubs in a season?

So many questions..............

Trialists can only be used in League matchday squads up to March 31st in any season. Trialists cannot be used in cup ties.

Each club may only play a maximum of TWO trialists in any one fixture.

Each trialist can only play in a maximum of three fixtures for one club before they have to register him or let him go.

So far as I can see there isn't actually any limit to the number of trialists you could use in one season. You could use two in each and every game up to March 31st subject to the same one not being used more then three times.

Also so far as I can see the Trialist isn't limited to a particular number of clubs in a season, though I don't know if they are caught by the "can't play for more than two clubs in one year" nonsense that FIFA occasionally enforce. I suspect they aren't though as I think that would only apply to actual registrations.

I think as the rules read, being an unused substitute would still count against the three possible appearances. I also think use in an official reserve game would count but in a friendly it probably doesn't. Not 100% sure about the friendly though.

So McMenamin for QOS and Darren Young for Morton.

Any ideas on the Dumbartonian yesterday?

Edit Dumbarton site has him as Martin McGowan.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I remember going to a QP versus Clyde game in the 1980s and Clyde named a trialist No.9. When he came out, we all thought "that looks a bit like Steve Archibald". Well it was Steve Archibald. To put things into perspective, Archibald was a hero at the Nou Camp, they loved him there. He left and not long after that, he's returned to his first club to play in the 2nd Division. Again, from memory, he was crap, and didn't play again !
